Today’s entry in the “Meeting Needs” blog series we are going to discuss Health & Nutrition.
First, I am not a Veterinarian or a Nutritionist. I cannot provide you with specific medical/nutritional recommendations. But it is a critical piece to our dog’s behavior to take into account.
If our dogs feel like shit or are are dealing with chronic issues they aren’t likely to be their best selves. Ever felt like you’d been an asshole or were off your game more than normal because of similar reasons? Exactly. Dogs are no different in this regard.
And of course, their day-to-day nutrition feeds into this as well. If your dog is operating day to day with an upset GI system this can have a huge affect on how they behave. Would you be your best self if you were having digestive issues every single day? I know I wouldn’t! Not to mention the feedback loop between brains and the stomach’s microbiome. That's a whole rabbit hole to go down that we are learning more about every day.
Keep these things in mind any time you’re wondering about your dog’s behavior. Think they are dealing with chronic issues of some sort? See a sudden change in your dog’s behavior? It’s time to take them into the vet for a workup.
You’d be amazed at how many behavior issues are affected by solving a health or nutrition problem.
